Budapest
I pulled Bjarni's arm Friday night as we pushed a suitcase and the stroller through the central train station in Budapest, and exclaimed: I'm SO happy we came! We were just about to cancel, when I went to bed with a fever the night before. Earlier in the week Silja had been home two days because of a stomach bug, the whole packing ordeal had turned our apartment into chaos and my last exam/thesis defense was lurking around the corner, and I had not spent enough time preparing for it. There were plenty of reasons to stay home and catch up on the to-do list, but this was the weekend to go, if we wanted to see Budapest before we leave. It's a 2,5 hour train ride from Vienna, non of us had been before, and the forecast said sun and up to 20 degrees. And so of course we went! And it was great and energizing. I got (lots!) pictures to prove it. Go if you are in Vienna, and hasn't already been.

Feels Like Summer
These last few days have been warm and sunny. It's incredible how this place seems to change with the weather: People are hanging out everywhere outside eating gelato and drinking aperol spritz. We are sucking it in, and enjoying the comfortable temperatures, before it turns humid and sticky later on. Feeling the summer spirit I managed to study from the park around the corner Friday afternoon, which reminds me that being a student again includes certain benefits.
Hey, and check out the chest of drawers in the back of the first picture, which we got last weekend. We have been having an empty corner in the living room that is now finally used due to our growing need of storage space. Funny how this apartment is coming together piece by piece over a long period of time.
And on another note, we were woken up by marching music this morning (!) when a may day parade were coming through our otherwise quiet street. I missed the red banners and balloons in the picture, but nevertheless: Happy May Day (to be imagined with the sound of horns and drums).

Easter Visitors
What a great week it's been so far. My sister and niece came to visit the first part of the week, and it has been so so nice to see them in the surroundings that are now home to us. Hanging out is much better than talking on the phone! Unfortunately I didn't bring the camera with me much, so a picture of Helle (my sister) is missing. Same day they left my old flatmate Helle stopped by for another couple of days before heading off to Asia today. Together we have been moving around from bench to bench enjoying the sunny weather and eating pancakes two days in a row, reminding me of the days back in our old apartment in Copenhagen. Good stuff.

Frühling an der Donau
Bjarni took these pictures earlier today along the Danube canal, and now I was given the job to post them as he is busy in the kitchen. I like the expression on the face in the last picture. Looks like the guy is burping..
Hope everybody is having an enjoyable Easter. We are excited about visitors arriving next week. Yayy!

EGGcelent Easter Market
Austrians love markets! And Easter is apparently another great reason to open small stalls around town with arts and crafts, sweets and typical Austrian foods in order to celebrate the season. I accidentally bumped into one of these markets on a lunch break from university the other day, and dragged Bjarni along for a taste of the cakes, the hot chocolate and the Schlagermusik today at the Freyung Ostermarkt.
Frohe Ostern!

Sunday Walk
We were heading for one of the museums earlier today, but ended up going for a loong walk through the city instead, enjoying the spring weather and sipping ice coffees at Cafe Schwarzenberg. Words cannot describe, how great it feels to put winter behind us and look towards spring. After eight (at times challenging!) months in Vienna, we so are excited to enjoy the coming season in this city. We've worked out a list full of things we want to do and see before the baby comes. Game on Wien!
