Schönbrunn Park

We headed to the big park by Schönbrunn palace this past Sunday to enjoy the beautiful weather and a lunch in the shade. It turned out to be a bit too hot for Silja, so we headed home before the afternoon heat really kicked in.

Smile...!

Hardly out of the belly we have been required to start the process of applying for Silja's passports. Now, to get a (valid) passport photo of a 2-3 week old infant is NOT an easy task. This week I have been going to the photographer several times, but by the time I reached the place Silja was sound asleep in the stroller, and I couldn't bare to wake her up for a stupid photo. We finally managed to get there yesterday with an awake yet sleepy baby, and tried our best to have her look into the camera after instructions from the photographer. (How the heck do you do that?) The result didn't fully match the requirements of the standard passport photo, but her passport applications were accepted nevertheless.

Grandparents

Even though we live far away from our families both morfar (maternal grandpa) and amma (paternal grandma) have stopped by Vienna to meet Silja, and it has been great to share these early moments of parenthood with our own parents. Morfar and Anni came by the hospital and brought along lots of sweet presents from Denmark and amma stayed for a week and poured out of that amma-love, which I'm sure the little lady liked a lot.

Thanks for all the comments here, through email and facebook. It's truly very appreciated! I'll be back soon, spamming you with lots of pictures.

She's Here!

It finally happened. Our little girl Anna Silja made her grand entrance with considerable drama early Sunday morning. She arrived 12 days after due date, but she is well worth the wait! Mom and little Silja have spent the past five days in Wochenbett at the hospital as is the norm here in Austria, where the extremely kind nursing staff have been taking well care of us and assisting and supporting in everything from breast feeding techniques, diaper change and all those other practicalities that comes with a little new one.
Now we are home and it's so so great to be here. She is absolutely perfect and we cannot take our eyes off her, in awe of this little miracle that has landed right between the two of us.

With happy & thankful hearts,
Bjarni & Dorte.

Kahlenberg > Nußdorf

Due to a combination of the wonderful cooler weather-change (clouds and drizzle, yeah!) and a growing impatience of getting baby out (4 days overdue is not uncommon, but we got 6 more days before they are going to induce labor, and I reeally prefer things to start naturally..) we went for a long walk yesterday from Kahlenberg down to Nußdorf. While it didn't spark contractions or the like, it felt so good to be outdoors and take in the scenery and cool fresh air after the past weeks' heat wave.
